Can I work offline without an account?
Yes. Your text, outline, notes and research are stored on your Mac. Local work does not require an account. AI, sync and publishing require an internet connection.
What stays free?
The editor, five project types, planning, search, research, local versions and export. A subscription is required for Pero Pro features.
How does AI work?
Connect your own API key from OpenAI, Gemini or Grok. Requests are billed separately by the provider. Pero previews proposed changes; you choose whether to apply or reject them.
Which export formats are supported?
Manuscripts can be exported to EPUB, DOCX and PDF. Video scripts support DOCX and PDF. Choose chapters and formatting when preparing your document.
Can I return to an earlier version?
Yes. Pero saves changes automatically and keeps the last 10 local versions of a project. You can compare and restore them.
Does Pero work on a phone?
Pero is currently a Mac app. Pro lets you sync projects, notes and research between your Macs.
